How to Prepare Your Yard for Porta Potty Delivery
Get your driveway or yard ready for porta potty delivery: the best spot, truck clearance, gate width, marking the spot and what to tell the driver.
Where is the best spot for a porta potty at home?
The best spot for a porta potty at home is the side of the driveway: level, solid, within 25 feet of where the truck parks and out of the way of cars. Leave 3 feet clear in front of the door and keep it away from windows and patios.
How much room does the delivery truck need?
The delivery truck needs a path about 10 feet wide and 12 feet high, free of low branches, wires and parked cars. If the unit goes in the backyard, the crew wheels it on a dolly through a gate at least 48 inches wide for a standard unit.
- Standard unit: 43.5 inches wide, 47 inches deep, 91 inches tall.
- Wheelchair-accessible unit: about 62 inches wide; usually goes around a fence, not through it.
- No steps on the route; the unit weighs about 165 pounds empty.
How do you mark the spot?
Mark the spot with a cone, a stake with ribbon or a sign that says where the door should face. Tell us about gate codes, dogs, septic lids and sprinkler heads when you book, so the driver does not need to call you from the curb.
Do you need to be home for delivery?
You do not need to be home for delivery when the spot is marked and reachable. The driver calls about 30 minutes before arrival, sets the unit level, checks the door and supplies, and sends a photo if you ask.
