Should you rent a restroom trailer or porta potties for a wedding?
Rent a restroom trailer for a wedding when the site has a level spot, a garden hose and a 110-volt outlet, and you want flushing toilets and running water. Rent deluxe flushing units or standard units with hand wash stations when the site has no hookups or the budget is tighter.
| Restroom trailer | Deluxe flushing units | Standard units + hand wash | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flushing toilet | Real porcelain flush | Foot-pump flush | No |
| Running water | Yes, hot-water option | Foot-pump sink | Separate station |
| Lights and climate | Yes | Daylight panel | Daylight panel |
| Needs hookups | Hose + 110-volt outlet | None | None |
| Ground | Level, firm pad | Firm, level spot | Firm, level spot |
| Starting price | $1,950 per weekend | $399 per unit | $249 + $199 station |
A restroom trailer is the wrong choice for a field with no road access, a sloped lawn, or a site without power and water within about 100 feet. In those cases deluxe units give guests a flush and a sink with no hookups.
How many restrooms does a wedding need?
A 150-guest, 5-hour wedding with a bar needs 5 standard units, or a 2-station restroom trailer plus 2 standard units. Count 1 unit per 50 guests, add 1 per 150 guests for events over 4 hours and 1 per 150 guests when alcohol is served.
Worked example: 150 guests ÷ 50 = 3 units. The reception runs 5 hours, so add 1 unit. There is a bar, so add 1 more. Total: 5 standard units, plus 1 wheelchair-accessible unit and 2 hand wash stations. Swap 3 standard units for one 2-station trailer if you prefer flushing toilets. Try your own numbers in the porta potty calculator.

When do wedding restrooms arrive and leave?
Wedding restrooms arrive up to two days before the wedding, so they are ready for the rehearsal, and are picked up the next business day after. A Saturday wedding usually gets a Thursday or Friday delivery and a Monday pickup at one price.
- Restroom trailers are set up, leveled, hooked up and stocked by our crew
- We walk the planner or venue contact through lights, water and locking
- Units are cleaned and restocked before delivery; extra attendant service can be added
Where should wedding restrooms go?
Place wedding restrooms 50–150 feet from the reception tent: close enough for guests in dress shoes, far enough that no one smells or hears them. Keep a lit, level path. A restroom trailer also needs to be within about 100 feet of an outlet and a hose bib.
Barn and farm venues around Grabill, Berne, Leo-Cedarville and Columbia City often place trailers on a gravel pad behind the barn. Tell us about slopes, soft ground after rain and low branches on the drive.
Can you deliver a day early for the wedding rehearsal?
Wedding units can arrive two days before the wedding at no extra charge, so they are in place for the rehearsal. See wedding restroom rental.
Should I rent a restroom trailer or porta potties for a wedding?
Choose porta potties when budget matters or the site has no power or water. Choose a restroom trailer when you have a level spot, a hose and an outlet and want flushing toilets and running water for guests in formal clothes.
How many porta potties for a wedding of 150?
A 150-guest, 5-hour wedding with a bar needs 5 standard units: 3 for the guest count, 1 for the extra hours and 1 for alcohol. Add 1 wheelchair-accessible unit and 2 hand wash stations.
Is a one-stall trailer much cheaper than a two-stall?
The price difference is small, because delivery, setup and stocking cost about the same. Most renters choose the 2-station trailer, which can be split into men's and women's sides.
What colors are the units?
Units come in blue, green, gray or pink depending on stock that week. Ask when you book if color matters for photos, and we will match units for your date when we can.
Do I need a wheelchair-accessible unit?
Under the 2010 ADA Standards section 213.2, at least 5 percent of portable toilets in each cluster must be accessible where the standard applies, such as public events. Ask your venue or permit office what your event requires.
